Limiting bandwidth on cisco 6500/CatOS

This article describes how to limit bandwidth on particular ports on Catalyst c6500 with CatOS running. You can either run traffic-shaping, which sometimes is not good enough because it makes bandwidth smooth. But sometimes you need to drop bandwidth instead of traffic shapping.

At CatOS Qos policer should be used. You can apply policer for:

  • Any IP or based on IP source / IP destination.
  • Any TCP/UDP
